Beyond Meat : a delicious meat made out of plants

Yes, we love vegetarian food. No, we won't get tired of it!

This time, it's the Beyond Meat brand that's honored, with its burger patties made of plants. It only started to integrate greater market and this time, we're subjugated : it has the look AND the taste of meat!  So much that when fake-beef burgers were set on the market at the A&W restaurants, stocks quickly ran out.

How did they do to obtain the same texture and visual as meat? The pink tint comes from beetroots and the juicy texture is produced thanks to coconut oil and potato starch. Patties are soya free, gluten free, GMO free and 100% vegan. It's something to try and add to our favorite burgers recipes!

Black garlic : richer in antioxidant than white garlic

Ail noir, superaliment riche en antioxydant

Black garlic from Asia is still pretty unknown in Quebec, but it's worth it : we know it's richer in antioxidant than white garlic. It also has many other virtues for health, but researches are only beginning. My little finger told be that other are to come soon enough!

His antioxidant property set aside, what makes back garlic so unique is mainly its taste which is like one of a truffle, but less powerful and persistent. I'm sure you guessed, it's principally use to enhance taste of dishes. Its price keeps us from using it only for great occasions, but it only add charms to its special character!

Camelina seed, good vegetal proteins

Graines de caméline, bonnes protéines végétales

We fell in love for this 3rd special product which is harvested and processed for the first time in Canada by the company Oliméga in Saint-Édouard. The factory dedicated to its production is even heated thanks to solar energy!

Raw, roasted or germinated, the camelina seed gives a maximum of benefits for health : 4 g of camelina gives 26% of fibers and 26% of protein. It's a great source of vegetable protein and a great benefit to add to your smoothies, yogurt or even in our poke bowls, just like we already do with chia seed.

As an oil, camelina is an interesting substitute for olive oil. We mainly love its unique flavor of hazelnut and sesame!

The benefit is that, in a package super convenient of 380 g, you have pre-sliced vegetables like fettucine that you can either eat raw or blanch, boiled or fried into hot complete meals.

Crickets powder, the most environmentally friendly protein source

Poudre de grillons, protéine écoresponsable

So, crickets powder isn't that new, but I'm sure you've never tried it before! However, crickets are surprising : it's first very nutrtitious since based over an equal weight, it's protein intake is the same as beef.

It's breeding also has a minor impact on the environement compared to ones of beef, prok and chicken. To obtain 1 kg of edible beef, 25 kg of plants are needed when only 2 kg are enough for the same amount of crickets. Also, breeding crickets is scentless and waste free.

If you're not ready to eat a whole cricket (and we totally understand!), you may enjoy its n=benefits in its powdered version which may replace flour required into any desserts recipes or even in sauces. As for us, we did it!
