Leeks, please!

If you are unfamiliar with leeks, you are truly missing something: They are good, unique and are a perfect substitute for onions! We eat them all the time and put them in all our recipes! 


How to substitute leeks for other vegetables?

It's easy, because it's equal measures:

For example, for one cup of sliced onion, use 1 cup of sliced leeks. Leeks are an easy substitute!

Why should you try and adopt leeks?

What are the health benefits?

They are numerous:

  • Leeks are full of nutriments, vitamins and antioxidants (especially carotenoids and flavonoids)
  • They are beneficial for the respiratory tract
  • They clean the digestive system
  • They protect against allergens, various chronic and cardiovascular diseases and even some cancers
  • They are a natural anti-inflammatory
  • They possess hypoglycemic, diuretic and bacteriostatic qualities
  • They help maintain good cholesterol levels
  • They are digested slowly and keep you feeling full longer, thanks to fiber levels
  • They are low in calories, about 31 for an average leek (2 % fat, 88 % carbohydrate and 10 % protein)

And how do we preserve leeks?

Good question. We can keep leeks for 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Onions can be kept up to 2 months in a cool, dark and dry place. But even if you happen to live in a cave, it's not easy to find a dry spot!

So the point goes to leeks!
