It's above 10 °C since 3 days, with feverishness we've got our shorts out in advance and we've opened the windows to ventilate : BBQ time has come! But before wearing your apron and running to our livre de recettes BBQ,  some maintenance notions are in order for your safety and food safety. Follow the Complètement poireau guide to clean and maintain your BBQ, from the first meal to the ultimate meal of the year.

Hurray, it's the first BBQ!

First thing to do, it's to inspect the general state of the BBQ : burner, pipe, lid, wheel, grills and lighter. If you have a gaz BBQ, verify if the tank doesn't have any crack or isn't bumpy. If it has more than 10 years, replace it. Then you can clean.

Clean plates and grills (VERY IMPORTANT)

Cleaning these elements is vital : food safety depends on it. T do so :

  1. Turn on the BBQ to warm the grills
  2. Brush it with a metl brush
  3. Wait for it to cool down
  4. Clean it with soapy water (pro tips : to remove fats, lemon or white vinegar are very effective)
  5. With a sponge, simply clean with water

Clean the rest (OPTIONAL)

For the lid and the general structure, soapy water or oven or BBQ cleaner is sufficient. For electric BBQ, be careful not to use too much water.

If you have a gaz BBQ, take care to clean burners by brushing it carefully with a metal brush. With a toothpick, also clean bruner's holes.

If you have a BBQ with wood, remove all ashes (be sure it's cold!)

Before and after each steak or grilling

Before cooking foods :

  1. Turn on the BBQ to heat up the grills
  2. Brush it with a metal brush
  3. Oil grill with olive or canola oil with paper towel, so that food doesn't stick
  4. Grill and taste your grilling (try out our burger de poulet aux poireaux, it's delicious!)

After cooking foods :

When the grill is still hot, brush it with a metal brush. Don't add oil : if you put some right away, it'll evaporates when you'll heat hte grill again and you'll have to put some anyway.

It's only a goodbye : store your BBQ for winter

If it's your last BBQ of the year, clean it like at the opening. Then, cover it and store it outside. It's fundamental to not store your BBQ or even propane tank inside.

  • By letting a tank in a close space, carbon monoxide could accumulates which can be deadly.
  • Your BBQ component are susceptile to rust with humidity from your garage or shed.

Anyway, be careful and enjoy your BBQ!  (Psst, we also ahve here lots of recipes tout plein de recettes!)
